Well, things looks like they are finally starting to take shape over at Rowlett’s biggest development, Bayside. Located right at Interstate 30 and Dalrock, this project was a huge undertaking, that has taken a little bit of time to come to fruition. Originally planned to be two large, condo towers, luxury apartments, single family homes, and retail, entertainment, and office space; with an 8 acre ‘crystal lagoon,’ the plans have reportedly been in flux.’ The development site is a total of 262 acres that is on both the north and south side of I-30.
The project has changed developers, and as of this Spring, the new team was gathering info on if the ‘crystal lagoon,’ would end up being a part of the finished project. The lagoon was to be a resort style recreational water feature with swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding options. Regardless of the uncertainty of the lagoon feature, it does look like there is a lot of movement finally happening, and the infrastructure for the new residential part of the project is underway. There have been a couple of new home builders that have said they will offer new construction homes under 300k, so it does look like there will be some affordable options in a great setting right by the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard.
The city of Rowlett has announced that they remain committed to the project, and no doubt, many residents would love to see a vibrant retail, entertainment, and outdoor space are in the community. The original idea would see a 4 mile walk/jogging trail that is right on the lake, and surrounded by dozens of restaurants, businesses, and shopping options; along with the other side being single family homes, and community amenities, and even a large floating marina. There look to be questions still remaining of what the final project will look like, but it’s at least encouraging to see some building happening! WIth Rowlett and Rockwall being growing communities that are on the lake, and minutes away from downtown Dallas, there will hopefully be lots of smart, useful, and sustainable development that will add value to the residents and community for years to come.
